How to Edit Photos in a Chromebook

While, you can conduct basic picture editing with the Chromebook. Photoshop can not be used with Chromebook, doesn’t mean there are no other ways to edit an image.

Chromebook has an in-built editing tool in the Gallery app that can help in image correcting, and not only this but Google Photos editor works fine as well.


Editing pictures in the Gallery app

Gallery app has an in-built feature that can help you in basic picture editing. Most of the people visit their gallery to check saved images but aren’t aware of the editing tools it offers. The activities that you can carry out using the Gallery app to edit images are cropping an image, Resizing an image, Set picture brightness, and Rotate an image.

The steps to edit an image in the Gallery app are:

  1. Go to the ‘Files’ app on your Chromebook.
  2. Locate the image you want to edit and double-click on the same.
  3. Click on the ‘Pencil’ icon on the top of the screen, that indicates the edit option.
  4. Select the tool you want to work with:
  5. To set the brightness or contrast of the image, tap on the ‘Magic Wand’ icon.
  6. To remove the extra parts or sides of the image, tap on the ‘Cropping’ tool.
  7. For changing the size of an image, you can go for the ‘Resize’ tool. This tool lets you set the height and width of the image manually, or you can let the tool adjust it for you.
  8. To increase the brightness of an image, tap on the ‘Sunshine’ icon.
  9. There are two options to rotate an image. Clockwise or anti-clockwise. Select any of the two tools to rotate the image as you like.
  10. Tap on the back-arrow icon to undo the editing.
  11. If by mistake, you have reversed an action, you can redo the same with the forward arrow.
  12. Once you’re done performing actions and editing an image, click on the ‘Exit’ button to save the changes.

Editing pictures in the Google Photos Editor

If you have an image saved on your phone, the picture might have synced to Google Photos if you use it. You can choose to edit pictures in your phone itself as Google photos editor lets you edit images, but the Web, on the other hand, has always been a better option.

The steps to edit an image in the Google photos editor are:

  1. Open the ‘Google Photos’ website on your Chromebook.
  2. Select and open the image that you want to edit.
  3. Click on the ‘Edit’ button indicated by the ‘Sliders icon’ on the top of an image.
  4. Choose a filter to apply to an image under the ‘Filter’ tab.
  5. You can choose to edit the brightness, color correct, etc, by clicking on the ‘Sliders icon.’ Slide left or right to make adjustments.
  6.  You can crop and rotate an image with the help of the crop/rotate icon. For manual cropping, drag the corners of an image and set to the size you want to keep.
  7. Once you’ve done the cropping and resizing, click on the ‘Done’ button.
  8. When you’re done with editing the whole image, tap on the ‘Done’ button to save the changes.
